Tajikistan is striving to build the Rogun Dam, which would be the tallest in the world, aiming to transform its energy supply and achieve energy independence for its population facing power shortages. Despite construction progress, the project has encountered multiple funding challenges and political disputes. However, with recent support from a global consortium, including the World Bank, and improving relations with Uzbekistan, the dam’s future looks promising. The dam is expected to generate surplus energy during summer, which can be traded for gas in winter, enhancing regional energy cooperation.
